About the
Child Labour Unit
The Child Labour Unit (CLU) operates as a division within the Labour Department, with the mandate to facilitate and coordinate the identification of child labour through effective workplace inspections.
TEstablished in 2000 at the inception of the International Labour Organisation/International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (ILO/IPEC), the CLU serves as the government’s counterpart to the ILO. The primary objectives for its establishment include

Objectives
- Providing a government focal point to understand and support the implementation strategies of ILO programmes, as well as government initiatives.
- Designating a focal person to assist in building national capacity in the fight against child labour.
- Supporting the development of relevant policies and legislation.
- Leading advocacy and sensitisation efforts on child labour at all levels of intervention.

- Monitoring and evaluating all child labour elimination programmes and interventions in Ghana.
- Creating a platform for networking and sharing relevant information among key partners and stakeholder.
- Fostering collaboration with regional, sub-regional, and international partners to enhance the global fight against child labour.
- Serving as the Secretariat for the National Steering Committee on Child Labour (NSCCL) and coordinating its activities and programmes.
- Facilitating the development of policies and legislation related to child labour.
- Coordinating and monitoring all programmes aimed at eliminating child labour.
